Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the most streamed song within six months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music did not just draw interest back to this genre but it also brought attention to Latin music generally. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish predominantly, as well as four songs in the year the year 2016. In 2017, during the peak of the popularity of Despacito the track was one of 19 that mainly Spanish were included in the Billboard Top 100. In 2020, the number will increase to 41 tracks that fall into this category. Following the time that Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, famous artists started to work with reggaeton artists. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated for the track MIA MIA (2018) and Madonna collaborated with Maluma to record Medellin in the year 2019. In the year 2020, some Reggaeton musicians were complaining about the trend of the genre toward the mainstream. But a newer generation such as Rauw Alejandro was keen to keep the trend going. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music and different styles was an accepted method.
